Bangalore Rocks

This is my first blog and I would like to start with the most amazing two months of my life which I regret being only two months. This is the penned experience of my two months of SUMMER RESEARCH in Indian Institute of science, Bangalore. To start with I was to join my two months research programme in IISc on 5th June after a hectic 40 days of end semester exams and practicals which was about to kill me, I felt the same way as my friend manish felt when he used to say after the last exam “if I had one more exam I wouldn’t have gone for it”. So leaving the dull part of my exam, let me get back to the internship story,, so I was having a flight at 7.30am in the morning and had to reach by atleast 6.30am,, since the airport was one and a half hours away, I had to abandon my sleep and was furious about it,, but the excitement of going to Bangalore removed all the drowsiness from my eyes. Finally I reached airport well in time and boarded my flight. When I reached Bangalore I knew that the flight was half an hour late and hoped that my conveyance was still waiting holding a playcard(with my name on it) in his hand. When I came out of the airport he was still waiting and I was really quick to get on it. After an eighty minutes drive from the airport I finally reached my destination and relieved him of his duty. It took me a little over an hour to finally rest in my hostel room. The accommodation which I was given was a single room located on the second floor. After getting fresh I want on to make arrangements of mess and to complete other formalities. I was supposed to get in touch with my professor as soon as possible to fill in the joining report, but was unlucky as I could not meet him on Friday the 5th. The next two days being Saturday and Sunday added on to the delay in meeting with my prof.. Meanwhile, on Saturday and Sunday I carried on the task of making new friends and getting familiar with the place.

Frankly speaking Bangalore is a heaven on earth. Atmosphere, people, roads and everything in Bangalore was perfect. I felt myself really lucky to be there. Finally after meeting my prof. on Monday I was given a project on “study of optical properties of As2S3 “and was supposed to learn not to expect any spoon feeding from them. So I was handed over a bunch of previous research papers on the topic, totally unfamiliar to me and had to read them as soon as possible. On the first attempt of understanding them nothing went into my brain and I was totally shattered. The next few days passed in the futile effort to completely understand those research papers. Meanwhile, I used to go to the lab everyday thinking what I need to do. Even though I didn’t have any work in the lab I made it a point to be there from 10 to 5 every weekday just to show my prof. that I atleast trying to do something useful. After boring and depressing days I used to enjoy every night watching TV, playing billiards and hanging out with friends I made there.

Many days passed this way enjoying nights and quickly passing out the days. But even in this frustration, I used to go out every weekend to enjoy the beauty of the place and went in search of new tourist spots. Then finally after the innumerable attempts to get the research paper through my brain I succeeded in 10-15 days. After that my visit to IISc became more purposeful and I started doing some productive work. My prof was also cooperative then and helped me in my work. But still I used to enjoy most of my night sometimes even watching movies in the lab. Thereafter the time started passing quickly as I started enjoying my work and was certain to get some innovative results. Between all this happenings one of my friends at IISc (prabhat) was about to complete one more year of his life and we organized for a birthday party in the starting few seconds of his entry into a new year in the most natural environment under the sky. Another day we assembled components for a DJ night where all of us shaked our leg on the most beautiful and happening songs of this era.

Meanwhile my work continued to go slow but this time in a positive direction. Thus days passed on swiftly and a month of my stay at IISc came to an end. Since I was one of the last research fellow to join the programme, during my stay there many of my friends started departing after completing their tenure of two months. So we used to have farewell parties of their leaving almost every night and the next month went even more delightfully having late night parties and celebrations. But I was a bit depressed as well as one after another they were leaving for their homes. Finally I completed my two months although not able to find anything significant result but laid a foundation on which further work could be done. I was having a mixed feeling about this completion of my project feeling happy that finally my work had come to an end and had spend such a quality time with my new friends but at the same time I was sad I had to leave Bangalore and my friends there. Overall these two months at Bangalore were the most delightful two months of my life and I would be remembering it till my last breaths.
